GRANDIN RD SUMMER HYMN FESTIVAL

The Grandin Road Summer Hymn Festival is a collaborative partnership of the music ministries of churches on and around Grandin Road with a common goal of interdenominational song sharing and leading. Our hope for this event is that those gathered to sing will experience a breadth of hymnody and music from a variety of traditions and genres. This year's festival is led by a combined choir of singers and musicians from Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, Christ Lutheran Church, Grandin Court Baptist, St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, and Heights Community Church.

ORGAN SPOOKTACULAR

The RCPC Fall Festival beings with a festive organ concert in the chapel featuring music from movies and classical selections with a spooky flair. Each year the concert begins with J. S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor," ends with Boellman's "Suite Gothique: Toccata," and the rest is crafted new each year. This year's concert will feature a short silent film accompanied by the organ! Dillon J. Swanson, organist.

RUTTER REQUIEM

The RCPC Centennial Concert Series, "Music in Raleigh Court," continues with an All Saints Concert featuring John Rutter's Requiem and other choral selections celebrating the festival presented by the Sanctuary Choir; conducted by Dillon J. Swanson. Rutter's electric setting of the Requiem is one of the most popular choral works composed in the last 35 years praised for its simplicity, brevity, and memorable melodies.

The annual RCPC Christmas Concert is presented by the Sanctuary Choir and orchestra and organ; conducted by Dillon J. Swanson. This year's theme titled ". . . And Glory Shone Around" features images of light and angel song throughout moments of the Nativity story. Selections include music by Egil Hovland, Felix Mendelssohn, Mack Wilberg, and more! You won't want to miss this special RCPC Advent tradition.

Alongside the staged production of Puccini's Gianni Schicci, The Opera Roanoke Chorus will present the "Kyrie and Gloria" movements of Puccini's Messe di Gloria and "Easter Hymn" from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana; prepared by Dillon J. Swanson, chorus master.

LE CHEMIN DE LA CROIX

Le Chemin de la Croix, (The Way of the Cross) by Marcel Dupré, is a musical meditation on each of the 14 Stations of the Cross. Tracing the story of the Passion, this ambitious work has its origins in a series of improvisation created by Dupré in 1931. Each musical meditation is preceded by a corresponding poem written by Paul Claudel. This concert presentation will feature visual art, poetry, and the transcribed improvisations of Mr. Dupré.
